A Fabulous Golf Vacation In Vegas? You Bet!

by Charles Davis

Taking that much-needed getaway and being able to enjoy your favorite recreational activity, golf, does not have to be as difficult as it might seem. Finding good golf courses and accessing the ones you want to play at while planning other aspects of your vacation, such as lodging, is no small task. With some common sense and planning, however, it can be done.

Golf vacation packages are different from the normal vacation because the trip itself is built around the opportunity to golf and not the other way around. In many cases, those who do their own individual planning notice the golfing becomes secondary to the actual act of vacationing, which can dilute the trip. A specific trip to a destination like Vegas for golf can be easily planned as a whole, and the time and money saved could help you have the vacation of your dreams.

One major issue with a golf vacation, especially if you are flying to Las Vegas, is checking in your golf clubs. Golf clubs are labeled as over-sized or awkward packages and you may be charged extra fees for them. Sometimes these fees can be avoided if you do some research or enlist the help or a travel professional to find a Las Vegas golf vacation package which covers the fees already, or perhaps has a set-up with airlines to have those extra fees waived.

Another important aspect is selecting a place to stay in Vegas. An obvious choice might be a hotel that is separate and not affiliated with a particular golf course. Staying at such a place will cost you less initially, as the rates will be much lower than those at a golf-related lodging. If you do not stay at one of the golf hotels, however, you may find that you are not privy to certain services normally available to resort patrons, such as priority access to the golf courses themselves, to golf vehicles and complimentary refreshments and drinks.

A couple of other problems may arise if one chooses to stay at hotels outside of golf venues and resorts. First, a golfer may not be allowed to play at a course if he is not staying in the affiliated hotel. Second, the course fees may be much higher for someone not staying at the golf resort itself, thus eliminating whatever savings might have been accumulated by picking separate lodging. Proper research ahead of time can save a golf enthusiast from disappointment and unnecessary expenses when making plans for a golf vacation in Las Vegas.

It is recommended that the would-be golf vacationer consider ahead of time what non-golf activities one might want to do while in Vegas, and how much time should be set aside to do them. Las Vegas is an obvious haven for almost any activity one can think of, especially gambling. If money is tight, the casinos should be avoided, and one can choose to take in one of many included and budget-friendly yet exciting activities in this glitzy city.

If the vacationing golfer is judicious when putting together or selecting a Las Vegas golf getaway package, he might be pleasantly surprised to find one that includes tickets or vouchers to one of the countless numbers of shows or fabulous dining options that exist in Vegas, or maybe even an outing to one of Nevadaas spectacular natural attractions right outside the city. Taking advantage of these included activities can give provide a small break from golfing and helps round out the avacationa part of a Las Vegas golf vacation.

Ultimately, planning a great Vegas golfing and relaxation vacation comes from being good with finding the best packages and being able to address the little portions of the trip that can add up to a great time out. For those who are golf enthusiasts, and want to play some of the world’s greatest courses, Vegas is where it’s at. Plan smart, and travel well, and you can hit the links in Vegas without a care in the world.
