Many Different Wines Many Different Styles
August 12, 2008
Wine labels tell a story about the wine, the vineyard and the history behind them. Therefore each type of wine will have a slightly different label, other than the wine name, giving the vineyard a personalized wine bottle label.
The wine label is much more personalized than simply providing information on the kind of wine, year of production, and warnings about drinking wine. Wine producers may have artworks designed specifically for the individual label, vintage, type of wine, or even the designer himself, sometime the label may even tell you the story about the wine maker, and the place where the wine is produced.
Older labels that are more traditional may contain a picture of what the property originally looked like when the wine was first created. It may be just a picture of the vineyard, or the barrels or the warehouses or even the house that belonged to the owners. It can even have commissioned artwork by famous painters and artists.
Wine labels come in many types. They can be large or small, wrap around the bottles or even cover most of the bottle’s surface. The labels variations depend on the region where the wine comes from, or what type of wine it is, the vintage’s age, or the vineyard’s age as well as the individual choices of the owners of the vineyard.
There are many things to consider when looking at personalized wine bottle labels. The first thing is to look at the size. Older vintages are more likely to have smaller labels rather than labels that cover the entire bottle. This is because older vineyards are less likely to change from styles that are more traditional, it does not however mean that they do not change label sizes.
After examining the label size, then inspect the label design. Modern art will indicate a forward thinking approach and give you an idea of the age of the vineyard. The newer the vineyard, the more likely the label will change with each and every vintage and for each variety of wine.
Older art that is more traditional is more likely to be found on older vineyards or vintages that are more traditional. If you are looking at wine bottle labels you may realize that all wine bottles are personalized based on the vintage and based on the vineyard that produces the wine. They may also change based on the type of wine.
If you are looking into learning about wine, you can learn a significant amount by learning how to read a wine label and learning how to tell about the vineyard and the vintage based on the type of label that is used. Different wine, different vintages, different vineyards, are going to produce different labels.

What to Look For In the Perfect Wine Cellar
August 9, 2008
The term “wine cellar” often conjures up visions of grandeur and luxury. After all, do not the finest European villas pride themselves on their extensive wine cellars? Further more, do not the finest restaurants in the area brag about the elaborate processes for keeping their expensive wines in ideal conditions.
With all of this focus on wine cellars, it can be a bit daunting to the average person, but a true wine lover can envision the importance of a personal wine cellars and consider the purchase of a home wine cellar.
Many wine lovers, however will not need an extremely, fancy storage system to house their wines. They might not even need a wine cellar at all, because they only keep a carefully selected collection of bottles in small quantities, which they drink regularly. There are, however, wine collectors who stock more than just a few bottles, and they might need a dedicated wine cellar at home in which to keep.
For the wine lover who enjoys stocking many different kinds of wines, or enjoys collecting wine, a dedicated wine cellar may be essential. A wine cellar can be placed in any convenient location within your home.
When purchasing a wine cellar, there are certain factors you must consider, among them: size, light, vibration, humidity, and temperature. Size refers to how large the wine cellar will be, and to how many bottles of wine it can hold. This may be related to the amount of space you have available for your wine cellar, as well.
Light, vibration, temperature, and humidity controls are necessary to maintain your wine in its highest quality state. Too much light (especially sunlight or fluorescent light) is thought to damage wines. Your wine cellar should offer a darkened storage space.
Vibration is another enemy of wine: too much vibration will disrupt the sediments in wine, causing it to change color or taste. The more delicate the wine, the more susceptible it will be to vibration and light.
Humidity also needs to be taken into consideration as having too much of it will cause the wine to mold, and having too little humidity may cause the corks to shrink leading to wines spillage and spoilage. The optimum wine cellar would have humidity for the wine at about 70%.
Temperature is also an important factor, because if the temperature is too high, it will decrease the flavor of the wine and if it is too low, it may cause the wine to freeze.
Self-contained wide cellar units are the easiest way to create a wine cellar in your home. They can range in size from 2 x 3 feet to 10 x 12 feet and sometimes even bigger. However, if you are considering a wine cellar design that is extremely large, it may be less expensive to have it custom-built for you.
Wine cellars come in varying prices small models starting at around $500 and with the more customized models running upwards of around $4000. Some of them hold as few was 24 bottles all the way up to 2500 bottles.
There is a variety of exteriors when it comes to wine cellar designs. They can range from super-sleek, stainless steel to rustic oak or pine with additions such as interior lights, glass panels, locking doors, and the like. All of this adds to your price, so you need to take that into consideration when looking at wine cellar designs.
When deciding to purchase a wine cellar, you should first determine a few things.
-How many bottles of wine do you wish to store at any given time.
- How much space you have available for your wine cellar.
- How much sensitivity you need in terms of controlling for light, temperature, humidity, and vibration. Again, if you are planning to purchase very expensive wines, you will need controls that are more sophisticated.
-Will the wine cellar be tucked away in a room or out in the open as part of your overall decor?
Ultimately, the purchase of the perfect wine cellar comes down to the best balance of features for the price and space. Know your wine drinking habits, and purchase the best wine cellar you can afford which meets your current needs, and gives you a little room to expand.
Advice for Creating Personalized Wine Bottles
August 4, 2008
A wedding is an important and usually large event to plan. You want people to have something special, like a bottle of good wine, as a gift but you also want to accent the positive memories of the day for your guests and/or members of your wedding party. That’s where personalized bottle labels come in, they add a fresh and unique touch to any gift.
There are several steps in creating a personalized wine bottle label. Be aware that some vineyards will create labels for you, while others will not. If the vineyard does not do their own labels, you will need to create the labels yourself. As far as the content of the labels goes, the first thing to put on the label of a wine bottle is the type and vintage of the wine. Also include the names of the bride and groom that the bottle is for, as well as the date of their wedding.
Some people might want to feature the site of the wedding on their personalized wine label. If you want to include a lot of information, choose a bottle that can handle a bigger label or one that has considerable blank space.
Another option is secondary labels. This gives greater freedom in creating something unique for you or an event, such as a wedding. You may want to use the colors used in the wedding to personalize the label even more. It’s all about your creativity and what information you wish to convey.
Colors, fonts, information as well as size of the label are additional considerations. If you would like a picture or have a lot of information to convey a good idea may be considering using a wine that uses a larger label as you would then have more room for your own personalization.
If you want more choices in choosing the wine you’d like to use as a wedding gift, you might place a small label using basic information. The wine may be given as a gift to members of the wedding party, or used as favors for all guests, as well as given by guests to the wedding couple themselves. It depends on what you’d like to do when you create your own wine labels.
Bind it up and Wrap it in
July 31, 2008
So what holds that Cuban cigar of yours intact. You know the actual layer to the most outside of a Cuban cigar? That oily wrapper (At least it’s suppose to be a little oily if it’s a good cigar)is what is outside of the binder. Yes the construction of Cuban cigars is a art on it’s own.
The wrapper serves as the out most layer that holds everything together but the binder is the one that holds the magical Cuban tobacco in perfect condition. If you cigar didn’t have a binder on it that was properly rolled than the tobacco in it will simply fall off.
We are not talking about trashy crappy cigarettes here, this is a Cuban cigar my friend. A tradition that has many days of history behind it and a quite rich one too as I might say. After the binder, comes the wrapper that covers your Cuban cigars. A wrapper is essential for any Cuban cigar and so is the binder. Without these two objects, the whole process is just incomplete.
Going back to the wrappers of the Cuban cigar, they are also the most expensive and rarest to grow. It makes sense because it is the most important part of the cigar when it comes to the look. Cuban cigars are beautiful objects and a wrapper not perfect is not going to work. Cuban cigar rollers take great pride in creating the most delicate yet powerful wrappers for their Cuban cigars.
If the Cuban cigar wrapper is flawed, the whole Cuban cigar is considered a bad cigar. Each Cuban cigar model has it’s own science behind the wrapper they construct and use for their Cuban cigars. Let us consider ourselves grateful that we are living in a time where we can enjoy Cuban cigars and the beauty it represents.
Selecting The Right Wine For That Special Occasion
July 31, 2008
Choosing the perfect wine really depends upon personal tastes. You can do research on the various vineyards, what was a good year for a particular wine, etc. but the bottom line is what do you like. We have listed a few things to look for in a really great wine below to try to make your next purchase a successful one.
1. The White Wines: Most commonly served as the first course, these wines do not have a really strong flavor, therefore leaving the taste buds relatively unaffected for the next course. Do not be afraid to ask the wine salesman for his advice. They will know exactly what year and which grape is best at this time.
A sparkling white wine such as the Rolls Royce of wines the champagne are reserved for those very special occasions such as a wedding, anniversary or engagement party. Again, you may want to ask the local wine connoiseuer what would be just perfect for the event.
2. Red Wines: A good red wine is great anytime, but when considering which wine to serve with a particular meal, a red is normal chosen for the heartier meals of beef, pork or lamb. A good Merlot, Burgundy, or Cabernet would all be perfect choices.
A really nice red wine produced mostly in Oregon is the Pinot Noir. With its blend of plum, vanilla and blackberry flavors it would be a nice addition to any meal.
The peppery flavor of the Shiraz would be a great accompaniment to spicy Mexican or Italian meal. This is another wine that would also go well with a meal of beef or pork.
Italian food with its hearty and robust tomato sauces requires a Chianti. A Chianti can range in price and quality. You may be able to find one that is rather inexpensive but the quality is perfect for you.
When serving beef, either roasted, braised or barbecued, a hearty Burgundy would be the perfect choice.
As you can see from the suggestions above you may wish to have both a white wine and a red wine on hand when hosting a dinner. Some guests will most likely pick the wine they prefer and stay with that choice for the entire evening. Another may choose a white for the start of the evening and finish with a red. So always be prepared.
If you are a true wine connoisseur you may want to experiment with your own creations. Producing your own wine at home can be quite rewarding. You can make a variety of fruit wines that would actually be a great addition with most desserts. If you would like to learn more about making wine visit Fruit Wine Making
Heard about Resveratrol?
July 29, 2008
Resveratrol is produced by certain plants to protect them from stress caused by the environment. It is a phytoalexin which is a byproduct of a plant’s natural defense mechanism. Resveratrol is found in huge amounts in the skin of grapes and this antioxidant protects the grapes from extreme heat and fungal diseases. It is therefore found abundantly in cooler climates. Wine is understandably one of the largest sources of this powerful antioxidant.
Recent studies have shown some interesting facts about this antioxidant. Resveratrol is seen to reduce the aggregation of platelets in the blood thereby reducing the risk of strokes, clots and even heart attacks. Moreover, resveratrol helps in prevention of damage of cells resulting from the presence of free radicals. This powerful antioxidant is also known to fight cancer effectively in all stages.
Though the curative effects of resveratrol are only in the research stages, this antioxidant shows a lot of promise in the cure of heart diseases and cancer. It reduces the risk of heart attacks and clotting of blood with the property by which it reduces the aggregation of platelets in the blood. Resveratrol also shows promise of damage prevention of free occurring cells. This property shows promise in the treatment of cancer.
As it has been proved time and again, consumption of wine or alcohol reduces the incidence of coronary diseases. This is true especially in case of red wine. Presence of resveratrol has been linked to this finding. Recent studies have proven that being a very effective antioxidant, resveratrol protects cells from lipid peroxidation.
Resveratrol is found to reduce aggregation of platelets thereby helping in the prevention of atherosclerosis. Studies are however inconclusive as they have been conducted only on tissue cultures in artificial environments. It is yet to be tested on animals and humans.
Blueberries are another natural source of resveratrol. A lot of antioxidants are present in blueberries along with resveratrol. Peanuts and peanut sprouts are also found to be excellent natural sources of resveratrol.
Resveratrol is also manufactured as diet supplements. It is available in the form of a transdermal patch and in liquid form. The transdermal patch resembles a nicotine patch. This antioxidant is also offered in powdered or tablet form.
It is advisable to consult one’s physician before deciding to take resveratrol supplements as a preventive measure for any ailment. As with any other drug which is in the research stages, it is better to wait for conclusive evidence and reports before proceeding to make it a part of our intake.
Resveratrol is a very prospective cure for some major ailments like stroke and cancer. However, extensive research is under way and we soon hope for results. Information on what is happening on this front is available on the internet. There are various sites offering information and updates on the research front. It is interesting to study about this wonder antioxidant as of now. It is prudent to wait for conclusive evidence before taking it as a preventive measure or as a curative for any ailment.
There is no harm however in taking natural grapes, peanuts, blueberries and such known to contain resveratrol in reasonable quantities rather than taking supplements that contain resveratrol, or in powder and patch forms.
Wine Gifts Are Great To Keep Around For Special Occasions
July 29, 2008
Not only is wine a great last minute gift, it can be the centerpiece of a gift basket complete with the recipients favorite cheeses, breads, and maybe even chocolates. Putting together a wine gift basket for a special occasion is nearly as satisfying for the giver as the receiver–even more so, if they offer to share. So if you like to keep a few gifts on hand for the unexpected occasions in life, a wine gift is hard to beat.
One does not have to be wine enthusiast or a wine expert to prepare good wine. The main factor here is to have a basic understanding about preparing wine. For my wine gift collection, I use a blush, white, and red.
Gifts of red wine can run the gamut from Merlots to Shiraz. I usually select a Merlot, Zinfandel, or a Pinot Noir. What I like about Merlots is that they are very smooth with an intimation of herbs and berries. Zinfandels, on the other hand, are hearty and are the ideal wine gift for that person who loves pasta and pizza. Of the red wines, the Pinot Noir, is always a wine gift hit. Most Pinot Noirs have flavor undertones of tea leaves, plums, or cherries.
Good red wine can please almost anyone. Make sure your recipient enjoys a good red and then go shopping for your basket from there. Pick a nice size basket so that your husband can fit those large tools that he probably will pick, into the basket. You might suggest cigars, good salami and cheese and some male crackers. Men are not too fond of fruit, so let your husband fill in the rest. You could also add a bottle of white wine as well. You will then have a fabulous red and white wine gift basket.
A wine gift delivery will usually fit into anyones budget if you dont go for the really expensive brands of wine. White wines will usually be your best bet if you are on a budget. But you can find a good red wine gift basket if you research your subject carefully. Good red wines are more expensive then white wines, but if you do some taste testing you can find a good sample. Sending a wine gift delivery to a friend, colleague or relative is a very nice gift.
Best tobacco in the world
July 29, 2008
Studies by top professionals in the archeology business has shown that tobacco was first found and cultivated in North America. Although their are traces of tobacco plants in China, North Americans (Natives) were originally the first people to grow and plant tobacco for smoking purposes.
Cuban cigars were first made popular by the early European explorers who brought it from the Americas (known today as the island of Cuba). It was Cuban where they first found tobacco in general and it was all on a journey while looking for India. When the settlers found native people their, they called them ‘Indians’ as they thought they might have arrived in India.
Tobacco brings in a lot of money to any country that is selling it. That is why the governments are kind of scared to totally cut off cigarettes. They’ve done a great job in raising awareness regarding smoking but some countries like Canada almost seem like they are controlling the smoking freedom that people once use to have.
Obviously they are the popular ones, but their are way more that you can choose from. Cuban cigars also come in various sub brands that range not just in pricing, but also in taste. The lighter ones start off at a lower end of the pricing structure so beginners can enjoy it at their own pace before moving the up the ladder so to speak.
Cuban cigars have come a long way and they still have a long way to go. I expect more cigar models as Havana usually releases them and they are simply amazing. I’m not sure if they will release another brand but if they do, I can guarantee it will cause an explosion within the industry. Don’t you know what Cohiba did?
