Spain Perfect Climate and Culture

by John Douglas

Vacationing in Europe can be the experience of a lifetime, but with so many popular destinations, deciding which country to visit can be rather difficult. Warm, sunny Spain is a perfect choice for a great vacation, with a variety of attractions that will satisfy the entire family.

Spain is a very picturesque country, with a land full of intriguing history. The Spanish people are just as extraordinairy and are very welcoming to tourists. Take plenty of time to explore the many options and vacation opportunities that are available before deciding which part of Spain you wish to visit. A great part of Spain for a family friendly vacation is Andalucia, in the province of Southern Spain. Here, like anywhere in Spain you will have wonderful weather and beautiful scenery.

One of the most historic cities in Andalucia is Cordoba. Here, visitors can enjoy the breezy, year-round Mediterranean climate and explore ancient structures dating back to the Roman Empire. Those with an interest in ancient architecture find the town of Cordoba fascinating.

One of the most visited historical sites in Cordoba is the Great Cathedral and Mosque. Stepping into this mosque, you will feel like you have stepped back in time. What began, as a Visigothic Church became a mosque when the Moors claimed Cordoba. The church was destroyed and the mosque was built. It was later converted back into a church when Spain took back the city. The architecture of the church is incredible. Its double horseshoe arches are made of onyx, marble and granite and there are over one thousand columns in the building.

The museums of Cordoba are equally incredible. They contain historical artifacts that can be found nowhere else in the world. The Palacio Museo de Viana at one time was a great palace. It contains artifacts that go back thousands of years. History enthusiasts will be at home when they enter this building, as will botany enthusiasts when they visit any one of the fourteen gardens that are maintained here.

In northwest Spain, San Sebastian is another beautiful city with a colorful past. Once a village, focused on spirituality and later a town centered on military functions, San Sebastian has been rebuilt to its present state of glory on two different occasions due to devastating fires.

San Sebastian is very well known for its festivals and celebrations, which is one of the main attractions for tourists. The city holds several different events annually, and the San Sebastian Jazz Festival, Jazzaldia attracts music lovers from all walks of life. The festival lasts for six days, offering plenty of fine local food to sample and plenty of jazz music to listen and dance to. This festival is now in it’s fortieth year, which shows just how popular and well recognised the festival has become over the years. Another festival that is held in San Sebastian every year is the horror and fantasy film festival. A great festival offering not just horror movies but also stand up comics, street shows and live music. Every year vistors come from all over the world to sample this real, live entertainment.

The above are just two of the more popular festivals that people attend in San Sebastian every year. The culinary capital of Northwest Spain, San Sebastian cuisine has been heavily influenced by the Basques. The beach areas of San Sebastian are a great place to grab a bite to eat or you could try a traditional country style restaurant. One thing for sure, you are in for a culinary experience that will be remembered.
