Tips To Help You Buy the Right Luggage

by Pat Lowe

Great luggage is an invaluable accessory when it comes to making traveling easy and convenient. It’s important that you look beyond fashion when choosing your luggage and search for functional and dependable bags. Your luggage should be well made to serve you for many years. A cheap bag will be more easily damaged, and almost certainly at the worst possible time.

Look for bags that are lightweight and easy to wheel around. However, they need to be strong. Keep in mind that luggage isn’t treated gently as you travel. Heavier bags might be piled on top of yours during transportation or in the baggage compartment. Therefore, durability and toughness are important considerations.

Buy luggage that features durable, well-made wheels, straps, and handles. Check to be sure that they are securely fastened to the bag and try them out for ease of use.

Examine the wheels on the bottom of your luggage. With a high quality product, these will be made out of a durable material. If your suitcase has rollers made from cheap plastic, then it won’t roll as smoothly as it could and will be prone to tipping as you transport it.

Also, carefully check the handle of any luggage you’re considering. If it’s retractable, make sure it works smoothly and locks into place the way it should. If not, it might become bent if it pops out while going through baggage processing at the airport.

Buy luggage with good quality zippers. If your bags feature a cheap metal zipper, you might find them opening up unexpectedly. Anything that puts pressure on the bag can cause the zipper to rip apart.

Examine the material the luggage is made of. Is it waterproof and scratch resistant? Will it tear easily?

Before purchasing your luggage, think about your traveling style. Some people like to check their baggage, and others just throw a few things in a bag and carry it on with them into the cabin. As well, be aware of the size and weight, because the airlines have strict regulations for these factors.

When considering luggage, look for features that will help to organize your packing. An expandable bag is useful for longer trips or for bringing home any items you purchased while away. If you usually carry a couple of bags, a useful feature is a strap attachment that secures them together. Look for lots of pockets and compartments and organizers that will keep your outfits free of wrinkles.

Luggage can be stylish, but it doesn’t have to be a fashion statement. Pick classic colors and avoid trendy patterns. Usually, there’s more than one person in the family who will be using the luggage, so find a color and style that everyone will be happy with.
